Argumentation theory: the Toulmin model

My MA thesis in 1976 discussed an analysis of one of the elements of the Toulmin model of argumentation, the so-called warrant. One of my conclusions was that a hidden or implicit warrant can be interpreted broadly as well as narrowly. A broad interpretations gives more opportunity to an opponent to criticize the argumentation, although the risk of the fallacy reductio ad absurdum lies in wait.
